Southern California

"Over there lies the UC Desert Research Center which
restricts portions of this area to explorers and that
makes me very jealous."

The Granite Mountains stand 50 miles south of Baker, California, above Kelso Dunes along
Kelbaker Road.  Elevations range from 3700'-6796' making Summer hiking and Winter weather events very rewarding.  Exploring the surreal jumble of granite boulders will reveal robust plants
and animals rarely seen in the Mojave Desert is such abundance.
